Concluding The Letter

We are coming close to the finish of the Letter to the Romans. In Romans 15:8-21 we find a number of things that Paul wants us to keep in mind or remember. In this portion of the letter we catch a few important principles that Paul makes sure are included.

Things To Remember

Thought Filled Words

In the book "Voice of the Martyr's" on page 150 we find the story of an African missionary that is believed to have been killed for his faith. Written on the wall of the home he inhabited these words were written and they are word's we should contemplate for ourselves:

The Fellowship of the Unashamed

I am part of the "Fellowship of the Unashamed."

I have Holy Spirit Power. The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line.

The decision has been made. I am a disciple of

His. I won't look back, let up, slow down,

back away, or be still. My past is redeemed, my present

makes sense, and my future is secure.

I am finished and done with low living, sight walking,

small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, mundane talking,

cheap living, and dwarfed goals.

I no longer need pre-eminence, prosperity, position,

promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don't have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised,

regarded, or rewarded. I now live by

faith, lean on His precence, walk by patience,

lift by prayer, and labor by power.

My face

is set, my gait is fast, my goal is Heaven, my

road is narrow, my way rough, my companions few,

my Guide reliable, my mission clear. I cannot be bought,

compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back,

diluded, or delayed.

I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the

presence of the adversary, negotiate at the table of the enemy,

ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander

in the maze of mediocrity.

I won't give up, shut up, let up, until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, preached up for the cause of Christ.

I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I must go till

He comes, give till I drop, preach till all know,

and work till He stops me. And when He comes for

His own, He will have no problem recognizing me.

My banner will be clear.

How On Earth Are We To All Agree?

In Romans 15:4-7 we find a classic text on unity. Within the text we read:

5: Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:

When we read this text and consider it in the light of church unity we have to ask the question, "How on earth are we to all agree?" In this sermon i challenge the concept that we are all to agree with one another and that this word 'Likeminded" is directed by Paul towards a different entity than your fellow man. After all it is written Philippians 2:5

5: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Likeminded

Tolerance

In the history of the Christian church there are several examples of intolerance. Throughout this history we recognize the existence of conflict between one group of Christians and another. The basis of conflict typically has been in the interpretation of scripture. As the church emerged from the reformation movement to what we have today many schizms have occurred to the point where there are a multitude of differing congregations. The driving force behind many of these splits is the idea of, "standards of the faith".

I think you will be interested to consider what Paul writes concerning the differing points of view between those who consider themselves as strong in the faith in relation to those they see as weaker.

This sermon explores the principle of tolerance found in Romans 15:1-3

Strong Faith, Strong Responsibility
